The Puea Thai Party will name its candidate for the prime ministership on April 24, when it will also reveal its election policies, party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said on Tuesday.
Speaking after a party meeting, Mr Prompong said Witthaya Buranasiri was chosen to take over as chairman of the party's MPs, replacing Chalerm Yubamrung who has resigned his seat as an MP.
The first person on the party list would be Puea Thai's candidate for prime minister, he said.
Mr Prompong said the party's executive committee resolved that all Puea Thai MPs should attend this week's meetings of the House of Representatives to push for the passage of three election-related organic laws this month, to deny the prime minister an excuse to postpone a House dissolution.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has said earlier he plans dissolve the House in the first week of May to make way for the general election.
Deputy leader Plodprasop Surasawadi said the party expected to win at least 270 House seats in the next elections. Puea Thai would definitely not cheat or buy votes, he said.
There would be no change of the Puea Thai leader, both for the time-being and after the election, he added.
Yongyuth Wichaidit, a non-MP, is currently the party leader.
